Share Market Update Jan 2018

  • The domestic share market has been FLAT since Xmas with deviations of the All Ords of only around 60 points, and at the time of writing we are sitting almost exactly where we were 1 month ago.
  • The US share market however continues to rally with the S&P500 rising between 5 and 6% in the last month. This is off the back of record company profits and strong economic growth, in expectation of lower taxes. The Dow Jones has now risen 40% since Trump was elected president.
  • The $AUS has risen against the $US significantly from 77c to over 81c. It’s thought this is partly due to rising consumer spending and unexpected boosts  to the retail sector, but mainly to global GDP growth supporting commodity prices.
