World’s Greatest Shave 2017
18 March 2017

Many of you would have heard of the annual World’s Greatest Shave.  In a nutshell, it is one of Australia’s biggest fundraising events designed to raise awareness and much needed money for those battling blood cancer.  Blood cancer is the third most common cause of cancer death in Australia, claiming more lives than breast cancer or melanoma.

Participants in the event are sponsored to shave their heads (technically, participants can also colour their hair, but shaving is an obviously greater sacrifice!) This year, one of Hudson’s very own will be taking part.  Not a staff member, exactly, but my 10 year old, very brave, very inspiring, very selfless daughter, Ivory Giddins, who will be losing her golden locks on March 30.  In the three weeks she has been fundraising, she has raised $2,363 (at time of writing) – well surpassing her original goal of $1,000.  Here’s a photo of Ivory (centre) and her sisters raising money on our local streets in exchange for chocolate chip cookies!

I’ve spoken to countless Hudson members over my 13 years here who have been battling cancer, recovering from cancer, or touched by someone with cancer.  Even at the tender age of 10, Ivory has known people impacted by cancer.  Not specifically blood cancer, but we believe any fundraising for cancer research is a step in the right direction.  I’m so proud of this kid, as are her extended family, friends, classmates and teachers.  Ivory’s personal goal has now been revised to $3,000 by the end of March – if you’d like to show some support to Ivory and be involved in raising money for such a great cause, please click on the link below:
